We are staring a new program in third grade that is going to combine many different strategies using these books. We will be having mentor texts from each book as well as writing prompts, comprehension activities, and more. It is very important to me that I have a physical book to read to the students instead of playing it on YouTube. This past year I did not have many books as I am building my classroom as a new teacher. I noticed that my students were less engaged when I played a book on YouTube for them to listen to. They expressed that they like being read to by me. they also liked being able to look at the pictures longer than the videos did. I believe it helps students better comprehend when they can hold a book andread it themselves at their own pace. They can also refer back to the book with any questions easier than they can on the internet. Even after the unit, I think it would be good to have the book in my classroom library for the students to read again any time they want.
