These students have poorly developed math abilities. Many are exceptional learners as well as English Language Learners. Their love for math is undermined because of their parents financial status. Because this lack of involvement with education and not sending their children to school regularly, students at my Title I school suffer academically. Most of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Many of them eat at school as their first meal of the day. Food is nourishment and without nourishment, their bodies begin to shut down and they can't mentally function properly because they are hungry. With their basic needs met, my students will now have the mental ability to achieve their academic potential. With the daily use of white boards and markers, my students that learn kinesthetically will be able to comprehend the math concepts being taught as a result of their individual learning needs are met.
