I’m passionate about providing a trauma informed classroom. Because students can have a variety of trauma that may not be obvious (poverty, incarcerated family members, separation from families, divorce, etc), using trauma informed practices insures that small children who may not be able to express their distress are provided with the space they need to begin healing. I believe that the best way to teach is to provide an environment that provides calmness. Through this calmness..:students feel safe and are mentally ready to learn. I try to create a classroom that is calming through intentional color schemes. I currently have a circle rug that is very bright and busy which can be overstimulating. This new rug is in the same calming colors that I use in the classroom and would help students during whole group lessons.
