Teaching students coping skills is key to their success. Holding students accountable while supporting them is a vital component of their future success. I want students to learn to cope with their struggles in both individual and small group settings. I hope they can learn coping strategies from one another and most importantly learn that they are not alone in whatever stress or struggle they may be facing. Stress balls and fidget toys are great ways to cope when feeling stressed. Sometimes the squeeze of ball, snap of toy, or the memorizing view of a liquid hourglass is just what we need to calm down. Jenga, along with other fidget toys and games, are great tools to help students feel at ease while talking their way through hopes and dreams or even concerns and struggles. The thumballs will provide my students with opportunities to learn from one another while providing a safe and fun environment to learn in. Additionally, the oval mirror will build self-esteem and promote comfortability in who they are. The tools my students will learn through these resources will carry over to not just learning they do at home but hopefully everyday tasks they face. I appreciate the importance of individual and small group support and want to utilize these tools to accommodate the needs of all students. Each of our students reacts and relates to things differently and these materials provide the support to respect those individual boundaries.
