My goal as a reading specialist and reading teacher is to help instill the love for reading in my students and the joy it can bring. Many of my older students have already decided that reading is a job because they struggle and have to work extra hard to be successful. There is no joy in reading for them. My job when they enter my classroom is to target areas of improvement in their reading skills, and help them to help them achieve the end goal which is reading on or above level. My plan is to integrate games and technology that focus on the five specific areas of reading. Which are phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. By remediating with games and technology, my students will improve their reading skills but be having fun at the same time.
