Students who sign up for engineering in high school anticipate that they will be doing several hands-on building projects. Unfortunately, this year has made that difficult with so many students learning virtually. Next year, I am hoping to give students the opportunities that they missed out on this year. There are numerous benefits when students have the opportunity to build a prototype of a design they created. I am asking for help to purchase the tools that will make this happen. These supplies can be used not just for one project or class - they can be reused across multiple projects and classes. This year, I was able to give one project in particular that asked students to construct an automata that they had previously designed. Watching the students ask me if they could start working before the bell had rung and find creative ways to get it done made me proud to call myself their teacher. Opportunities like this are beneficial for students, but are essential for engagement and retention of students to build the engineering pathway.
