The purpose of the request is to get items to start up a school store; hangers, sizing separators, open/close signage, t-shirt bags, mannequins (male and female), a DYMO label writer, and sign holders.. The students will be offered the following benefits as they learn how financial literacy and economics apply to operating a business. Students will learn about operations policies and procedures through operating a school based enterprise. The students will learn about the finances of starting and running a business through the operation of the store. The students will cross train in all roles of operating a store which include: Opening Day operations, budgeting, inventory control, cash handling, store opening procedures, store closing procedures, marketing research, store layout and design, merchandising/display, purchasing (cost analysis) advertising, security , marketing mix, housekeeping, promotions, distribution, financial operations, human resource management, customer service, economics of small business enterprises, financial statements creating and use, establishing credit policy. Marketing information management, market planning, pricing, salesmanship, and financial analysis are some of the lessons students will learn. Students will use 21st Century Skills of critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and teamwork, communication, and creativity and innovation. Students will have the opportunity to supplement, reinforce, and enhance their knowledge, skills and attitudes required for careers in marketing and entrepreneurship. The students will be afforded an opportunity to develop businesslike procedures and attitudes, leadership and management skills, and sell goods and services at reasonable prices for school faculty and the student body. Many of the skills required for entry-level employment can only be taught by doing. The school store will be a great business laboratory for this learning by doing adventure while creating experiences in an entrepreneurial atmosphere.
