Reading and playing an instrument develops cognitive and social skills that require discipline and commitment. These skills will stay with them forever and help build responsible, hardworking and successful individuals in society. Every year I make the attempt to teach recorders. But most of my students cannot afford to purchase even the most economical recorder on the market. I have two class sets of recorders which in the past were shared by students. However, with COVID this is no longer possible. Our students would be extremely grateful and eager to experience having their own recorder so they may practice at home on weekends. Recorders are easy to carry, provide a perfect venue to learn how to play music notation; but most of all... allow our students to experience participating as soloists/group ensemble during music class and performances.
