In Our program students can build on self esteem, self confidence, and develop skills for life through the sport of wrestling. We have roughly 10 to 20 students in the program, a diverse group of ethnic backgrounds. Several whom are extremely intelligent, while others struggle with being open and have issues trusting others until they believe you care, a few others have the physical attributes but have never competed in structured programs. They learn about their strength and weaknesses, as well as develop new friendships through our annual B.T.S competition an initiative geared toward inner city youth. Most items we requested will be utilized in the wrestling room, but some items can be used in their homes. By providing these items to our students/athletes, in time success and progression in sports or even life will occur. By buckling down, remaining focus, and giving that same attention to academics they can manage the responsibility of controlling the outcome of their future endeavors. We are working to increase their opportunities to succeed in both areas by placing emphasis on academics and athletics coupled together. The grappling dummy will give the opportunity to still practice their moves when we have low numbers in practice. It will also help them become more comfortable knowing they won't injure themselves or a team mate if they perform a move incorrectly. Also having the headgear to protect them from concussions, as well as using a color system will be a way to promote growth.
