My kids need to move desperately. They struggle without the tools they need to succeed. My goal is to create an ADHD/ADD/ASD inclusive classroom where all students, neurotypical or otherwise, feel they have what they need to be their ideal versions of themselves. These kids have spent the last year being made to stay still in their seats, with no "outside distractions" (read: sensory tools) allowed. These kids need movement and sensory input to fully engage with classroom content. The items on my list were picked with that goal in mind. My students deserve better than miserably attempting to stay put all day, and my ambition is to create a space where they feel valid. I want them to understand that there's nothing wrong with them, that they aren't bad kids, and when given the right tools and strategies, they can have an incredible school year. Under desk peddle, exercisers will give the students a much-needed outlet for their excess energy during lessons. Sensory tools and resistance bands will provide sensory input when the students' are struggling to stay focused. The pup tent, bean bag chairs, and sensory pod will give the students a safe place to step away and self-regulate when they become overwhelmed.
