Materials chosen for the project specifically target areas that may not necessarily be addressed through books. Resources such as the Draw Write Touch Board and the Snap Build Blends Diagraph will benefit students in the area of fine motor skills as well as early reading/sound identification. All lesson plans are focused on the use of visuals to assist with transitioning, calming, and providing an appropriate educational environment where students feel supported for their differences. Students would use the Calming Cuddle Ball and the Cuddly Puppy Weighted Lap Pad for calming the many anxieties they exhibit facing everyday tasks and to be successful in and outside of the classroom setting. By incorporating visuals, such as the Light Table Simple Words Tracing Tiles, into handwriting activities, will enhance and promote kinesthetic learning rather than listening or watching. The overall goal for my students is to address sensory issues first and foremost to help them stay focused and calm before any learning can take place. Maintaining eye contact, expressing needs, and responding to sensory affects the delivery of any curriculum because every child learns differently. It is important to keep in mind that every child responds and learns in their own way. The tools for the project are needed to target specific, identified needs of my students that will be used to support and provide early intervention to learning. Classrooms activities must be appropriately structured with reinforced interactions that address individual strengths and weaknesses, which is what I plan to do with the added resources.
