The book selections that are requested will provide the students with a variety of topics to keep them engaged. Allowing children time to select books and provide time to read independently will grow my young readers. In partnership with home and school, these books will be used in the classroom, as well as at home, to reinforce reading skills. Through reading workshop, I teach strategies for the children to implement and practice during their independent reading time. In addition, children select a book(s) of choice to take home each day to share the learning with families. During my lessons, I help children to understand characters and how feelings change throughout a story. I also have them reflect on pages as they read so that they are able to talk about stories read to others. True readers talk about their books and share their love for reading.
