We read "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" by C. S. Lewis in one of our units. We compare characters, plot, and other story elements in that book with "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." Our district did not purchase the rights to the entire book, only 2 chapters, a portion of the first and the eleventh. After reading the first portion, the students beg for more, a teacher's dream, RIGHT! I would allow students to read on their own, or add extra read-aloud time in class. It would be enhanced learning disguised as fun reading.
