When we transition into in-person learning, my students and I all have to stay six feet apart from each other at all times during in-person learning. There will be no partner work, no close interactions, no small group work, I am not even allowed to help a child in close proximity. This is not an effective way to teach or learn for any child let alone a first grader. With these plexiglass shields, my students and I will be able to be in close contact with each other and stay safe at the same time. My students will be able to sit next to their peers and have meaningful conversations around instruction, Participate in workshop activities, and actually move around the room. I will also be able to help my students one-on-one and in small groups and still following the safety guidelines of our district.
