Celebrating diversity is an integral component in creating a classroom environment that promotes inclusion, equity and acceptance. As a teacher, I want ALL my students to feel welcome, safe and be able to express themselves in my classroom. Promoting awareness and creating a personal connection with diverse cultures in the classroom can prevent students from developing prejudices later in life. Updating my dramatic play center, classroom library, and block center to represent all cultures and will help children to be more open-minded later in life. This will make them open to new ideas and be able to attain a greater comprehension on a topic by taking in different points of view. As a teacher, I want to promote self confidence and encourage exploration. Every child is unique and needs to be celebrated!
