I am a special educator at a rural public high school. I provide direct services to students with a range of disabilities and learning needs. Since the COVID shutdown, I am delivering these services both at school and at home, as my school is on a hybrid schedule. Because we could shut down as a school, state, or country at any time, I find myself lugging two computers and materials every day to and from school. I am also finding that students are getting caught in a rut with the same way I am doing my lesson. Yes, there are online tools to get them to participate but those are getting old, too. Having the document and tablet will help me to make instructional materials more accessible, enjoyable, and engaging for my students. This is not about me it is about my students! These materials will make direct instruction more dynamic and catered to each individual student. Due to our "new normal" I feel that my students need to feel that they are accomplishing their goals. I do not want them to get tired of learning whether it is online or in school.
