Covid protocols in our county prevent us from accepting hard copy work. The county-wide requirement for students to submit everything digitally has created complications, since we do not have scanning devices or cameras at school for student use. When pencil/paper assignments are used, students have to take the work home and ask a parent or sibling to capture images of their work. Some parents must take time each evening to submit each individual assignment for every class their children take. In other cases, the images are captured on a personal device and forwarded to the student's email. These must be retrieved by the student on a different device, then attached/uploaded to the required platform. Some students use their smartphones, but many do not have that option. Even with a phone, the process is time-consuming. Compared to our previous "norms" for turning in work (write on a paper and hand it it), it can become overwhelming. We have seen that many in-person students complete their work but do not follow through with the arduous digital turn-in. This prevents teachers from seeing what they know and providing formative feedback. I am requesting donations for a scanning device that students can use to turn in their work at school. My hope is that in-person students will be able to complete a paper and scan/submit it on the spot. By simplifying the process, we hope to increase the frequency of work submission and provide more meaningful and timely feedback to our students.
