We as teachers always strive to make learning relatable to our students. The repeated question of, "How can you connect this with your personal experiences?" is what is asked during instruction. That question was easier to answer when students were learning in person, but as the pandemic has forced us to move into distance learning, finding ways to have students feel connected to their learning has become a difficult challenge. Asking my students what they wanted in experiences, they unanimously requested activities that are relatable to them. So I incorporated digital literacy to improve their Math, Science, and Social Emotional Learning. By having the Canon cameras, my students will be able to extend their learning outside of our virtual class, and make meaningful connections. For Math and Science, students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of core concepts, such as Algebra and Physics, by taking pictures or video to show their classmates. For their Social Emotional Learning, students will develop confidence in themselves through pictures and videos they take demonstrating their learning to their peers. Lastly, providing these opportunities for students will not only develop their connections to what we are learning in class, but also develop the necessary skills to be successful contributors to society in whichever field they choose.
