Reading is a major focus in all of our schools. At our middle school, all students are required to read as an ongoing year-long project in their language arts classes. Students in advanced language arts classes at the middle school are required to read the books nominated for the Young Hoosier Award each year. There are 20 books on the list put out by the Indiana Library Federation. These books are nominated by teachers and librarians across the state for being high-quality stories that have the ability to resonate with adolescents. We have copies of the Young Hoosiers in the library already, but it is an ongoing problem to keep enough on the shelves to meet the needs of all of our students. Since all students in advanced language arts classes have to read from the list of book nominees, we could really use some extra copies.
