The materials I have chosen for this project will be used to help my students to visualize and understand difficult nutrition concepts. Students love to learn by example and can be accomplished with posters, banners, food replicas, fat and sugar samples, and models. Scientists everywhere are confirming the dangers of too much added sugar and saturated fats in the diet which can lead to heart disease and diabetes; two of the major killers of Americans. The materials I have chosen will help me to teach students what they are and where to find hidden sources of the bad nutrients. All of the visuals will be used in combination in a nutrition unit using the updated nutrition facts labeling, and eventually, students will analyze their own diets over a week's time.
