In this day and age of "Room and Zoom" and distance learning, students deserve to be taught by teachers who have the most effective devices to reach students. Often, several devices are needed to be able to show material on one screen and monitor student activity/work on another. But my district cannot afford to provide teachers with the necessary technology to make distance learning effective for our kids. As an English teacher, having another device on which I can demonstrate how to annotate a text or how to edit a piece of writing is necessary; having a Surface Pro will provide me with a much needed device to help my students go beneath the "surface level" and dig deeper into literature and their own writing. Teaching English is about teaching students that there is so much MORE to a story, a poem, a speech; they have to look beyond the literal surface of a piece to make meaning of it and to truly connect to it. Being able to use a second device to demonstrate HOW to do this for my students will be a game changer!
