Ever since we've come back from a year and a half of remote learning, the confidence of my students has plummeted. I want to give them an opportunity to study a novel they will love - regardless of their level of success in the past. For this upcoming unit, we are reflecting on this question: In what ways is "home" both a place and a state of mind? We will reflect on what contributes to our identity and what home can feel like when we are faced with tragedy and trauma (just as the refugees do in this book). I anticipate they will think back to their own experiences and connect best with this book.
