My goal is to create a student-centered special education classroom catered to a variety of learning styles. If students are able to choose their seating, they may be more motivated to learn. In addition, they will have opportunities for increased focus when given an option to sit or stand where they can do their best work. The whiteboard table allows students to make this choice given the adjustable height options. Traditional paper and pencil activities can be traded for colorful markers, an erasable tabletop, and opportunities to move. The table also encourages collaboration as students can share their work as they write directly on the table. Utilizing the whiteboard table as a form of flexible seating would allow students to move while learning and assist them in staying engaged. As a special educator this is significant because it contributes to a differentiated and high-quality learning environment for students with a diverse array of learning strengths and needs. The whiteboard table can provide a way for students to use a modality of learning inclusive to movement and visual processing while empowering them to make individualized learning choices.
