I am requesting illustrated copies of Tales of Mystery and Terror by Edgar Allan Poe. As I am often making my own lessons and units for my ELL students, I ask them what they want to learn about and read. In my most recent asking, their unanimous vote was for horror and what better way to read horror than by the great writer of horror, Poe? This book will also give my students even more choice as it is not just one story by Poe, but a collection of stories. When teaching ELL students, getting them interested in material is often difficult since they are disillusioned by their English classes as they may have been in them for many years, feeling like they are failures because they are not succeeded in passing classes or the AZELLA. Students are more likely to succeed if they are interested in their subject and that higher learning will translate, not just to passing a test, but to their other classes and then later in life.
