Indigenous students make up a large group in Anchorage and at my school. The books in the library need to represent Indigenous people's achievements and experiences. All students need to know that many people groups have contributed to our collective history and knowledge. These books will be on display for Native Heritage Month in November. When books are featured in the library, students check them out and take them home to read, more than when they are on the shelves. Seeing the theme, decorations and titles allows students to peruse them and choose something just for them. The books will be featured in read alouds and extension activities in the library, and classroom teachers will be able to use them in lessons with the students.
