The requested supplies will be used to create individual learning lots for students. Students will use these at home but if we ever shift into hybrid students will bring them as needed to school. I know most students will not go into the world and become professional artists but I aim to send students into the world with the ability to make and understand art. They need to be able to understand the images they encounter on a daily basis, use the problem solving skills art production encourages and know that art is there to act as their voice when words may not be enough. Students will be taught how to use the different materials including the advantages and disadvantages of each material. Students will first be taught some mark making techniques with each material, including hatching, crosshatching and how to create texture. By doing this students will begin to understand their own preferences for the materials and what materials work best for certain subjects and details. Students will create artworks to share their own personal story. This is a project where they choose something to share about themselves, be it a memory, a hobby or a social justice cause they care about. They will choose materials from those donated to complete this personal work of art. Students will be taught the proportions of a human face and will use the donated materials to put the finishing touches. Students will be taught the various spatial devices to create a landscape again using the donated materials to help with details and values. I want my students to have choice in how they show some of these common art subjects while expressing themselves.
