Students will work together to find and solve a series of math problems hidden around the room (or hidden in their notes) in order to open a series of locks on the breakout box. It’s an engaging activity for students to practice math content without knowing it! They get to sharpen their 21st-century skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, communication, and critical thinking. They will see the benefits of their hard work when they finally open the box to get the “key” to Escape from Algebra class! The most fascinating thing about these activities is watching my kids helping each other succeed. I can’t help but smile the entire time! This is something I plan to do once a week and the resources for escape rooms and breakout boxes from Teachers Pay Teachers will give the students a variety of storylines, even ones that I can use for inspiration to create my own storyline.
