The students at my school are under a great deal of stress during these uncertain times. Many of my students are worried about things that no child should have to think about. Some of them are responsible for looking after younger siblings while also trying to complete their schoolwork; others are fearful that their parents might lose their jobs. Normally, students are able to connect with their friends at school and leave these stressors at home. Right now, they don't have that opportunity. It is crucial, now more than ever, that we focus on ways to provide moments of connection, safety, joy, regulation, and normalcy to our kids. Playing board games can be a great way to remind children that their main priority is to have fun, spend quality time with loved ones, and take a break from the computer screen! There is no doubt that these stressful events will have a lasting impact on our children. Thankfully, building resilience can help them endure challenging times. Kids will think they are just playing a fun board game with their family, when in fact they are strengthening connections that will help them build resilience and overcome adversity.
