As a teacher one thing that I strive to do inside and out of the classroom is to open doors to possibilities that they might not be exposed to. This is done through sharing my life with them and allowing them to see parts of me throughout my education and the various things that I have done. One of the things that has been show to them this year in my classroom is the game of men and women's lacrosse. I happened to bring my old lacrosse sticks into the classroom for no reason what so ever and my students faces lit up! From that point forward recess has been filled with them trying to play catch but mostly launching the ball, scooping it up and doing it all over again. Being that I am one person I only have about 3 sticks to occupy that of 20 plus first graders everyday at recess. I want to make this more formal allowing more students to get a chance to put their hands on a stick for as long as possible, even potentially expanding it to PE where we could be working on it on both fronts. Lacrosse gave me an invaluable chance to cross boundaries and fall in love with a sport I never thought I would my only regret being that I wished I had picked it up sooner. Now that I have the opportunity I want to expose as many children to it as possible through the position I now have a s first grade teacher.
