Children’s books that feature diverse characters and cultures were once difficult to come by; however, this has changed dramatically in the past few years. Now, there is an abundance of diverse titles to choose from. As children learn to read and explore the world of books, diverse titles are critical. For some children, diverse titles allow them to connect to characters that mirror their identity. This promotes a love for reading and a deeper level of reading comprehension. For other students, diverse titles allow them to explore other cultures and connect to characters that are different from themselves. Your contribution to this project will allow me to add a collection of diverse picture books to my classroom library. This will instill a love for reading in young children, as well as a sense of belonging in a vibrant classroom culture.
