Dental carries are one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood in the United States. Untreated cavities can cause pain and infections that may lead to problems with eating, speaking, playing, and learning. Children who have poor oral health often miss more school and do not excel in school as compared to their wealthier counterparts. Children from low-income families are more than twice as likely to have untreated cavities Early signs of tooth decay are easier to treat than advanced cases. Another complication of poor oral health is gum disease, which can be mild in the initial stages, but lead to much more severe problems if untreated. Gum disease may cause loss of teeth, infections and other complications. Good dental health starts with education at an early age. Teaching our students, the importance of proper daily brushing, flossing, along with regular visits to the dentist can help to prevent and reverse this chronic disease in children. Thank you
