Our students come to us with a wide range of abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Our classroom is set up to meet each student's individual needs and to help them grow and build upon both their strengths and weaknesses. We believe that every success and every step is worth celebrating, and we celebrate big! Our students come to us with a wide range of disabilities, strengths, and areas of need. We read social stories and apply those stories to teach important life skills like washing our hands and how to clean up when we are finished eating. These adaptive stories were created for children with special needs to make reading more hands-on and accessible by adapting books to individual needs. They help our students learn important life skills like how to make better choices and expand their vocabulary and communication skills. With adaptive classrooms we need books that specialize to their needs with pictures, fewer words, and picture recognition this with help with less stimulation and larger print. These stories are printed from websites, then laminated so they are reusable. Each story has different pieces to choose from so that the student can retell the story. These books help more then just telling a story, they also teach life lessons. It teaches them how to make choices and expand vocabulary and communication with classroom skills. They learn how to follow directions and how to sit properly to read a book. So many skills come from seemingly simple resources. We use adaptive books every day in the classroom. With learning life skills we send these books home with them so that their parents and caregivers can work with their child.
