All of our students want to better learn social and emotional skills. As a school counselor, I teach grade levels from PreK to 5th grade. This is a very wide gap in the variety of lessons and skills that I have to teach. The books will be used to better enhance the school counseling library that I use to create Guidance Lessons. Having a wide variety allows me to introduce new characters to the students who struggle with similar things that they may at home. I always love using books to show different scenarios that happen every day and to talk through those events with the students. Each student matters, and each student deserves a place to feel safe. The games and hands-on items are used for small groups or individual sessions. It is much easier for students to focus and talk about difficult things when they are allowed to focus some of that nervous energy into something different or hands-on activities. Currently, my office has chairs that are far too small for most of my students. I know that they would greatly appreciate having a comfortable seat to sit in for when they come to visit with me each week.
