This year, students around the world have faced an unprecedented challenge due to the covid-19 pandemic. Many students are unable to attend school in person and must learn remotely. For immigrant and refugee families in a high needs urban district, this poses many issues. From overcrowded or unstable housing, to limited tech literacy, English language learners (ELL) in my ESOL program have struggled to access their remote learning in a fair and equitable way. Headsets with microphones will allow all of my ELL students to hear, speak and participate with limited environmental interruptions. These headsets will allow students to hear all instruction if they are working in a noisy environment, or do not have a dedicated space for remote learning. This is critical for higher engagement and participation from our students, leading to their educational success.
