My goal is to protect the DREAMERS. School nursing looks different during a pandemic. In the past when a student was ill they would visit the school nurse in their office. With the advent of SAR-CoV-2 that has changed. The school nurse must go to the students classroom to provide consultation and care. In order to do an efficient job keeping our kids safe I need a rolling workbench that locks so I use it as a medication cart to take into classrooms and administer student medications, have my supplies available in one area so that I can quickly don and doff protective equipment and move from classroom to classroom. When symptomatic students are placed in the isolation area the school nurse is required to observe the student until their parents pick them up. I need a baby monitor so that I can observe the children while still completing my day to day tasks. Finally, we are on a heightened hand washing regimen and mask hygiene regimen. Daily, I give at least 50 disposable masks to children because of poor fitting or filthy masks.
