Imagine you are in kindergarten. The teacher is working with a small group of students. The others are engaged in a variety of activities around the room. Some are recreating the setting of a story we read earlier in the morning and using Draw and Tell to record the dialogue of characters. To help with letter recognition, others may be using an Osmo to explore the attributes of letters by manipulating sticks and curves. This is our vision as we integrate technology to bridge the real and digital world. Osmos would be valuable resources to enhance an interactive learning experience through fun, engaging, hands-on activities. An Osmo is an attachment for the Fire tablet that allows students to manipulate physical pieces to draw, code, spell, and more. Their creations then comes to life on the Fire tablet screen. The Osmo apps will tap into the students’ curiosity and creativity to encourage hands-on problem solving. With this device, students will work on skills such as letter recognition, decoding, comprehension, vocabulary, number identification, counting, and addition. Our young learners will develop critical thinking skills and become better problem solvers as they overcome the challenges presented in the different applications. Students will be encouraged to think outside the box as there are unlimited solutions.
