Many of my students don't have access to printed materials, especially while they are unable to attend school in person. I want to make the most of the time they have left in high school by helping them cultivate a lifelong love of reading. Literacy is a human right, and this classroom library will help them achieve it as they immerse themselves in the pleasure of reading texts not assigned by teachers. I plan to allow students to check out books and return them so they can circulate among my classes. I chose both English and Spanish titles because 70% of my students are Spanish speakers, and research shows that literacy in one's first language enhances literacy in a second language, and vice versa.
