My class is filled with young children that love to read! They read every chance they get. When we have a few minutes waiting in line for picture day, or when we finish tasks early, our class uses that time to read. They get excited about sharing new books that they love and take recommendations from others. I worked hard over the past few years to build up a library that would make any child excited to read, but there are some gaps that I have not been able to fill. Students have expressed an interest in finding more informational books and books with diverse characters. Our class reads independently for 20 minutes a day. Research shows that when students read for 20 minutes a day they are exposed to 1.8 million words each year and score 90% better than their peers on reading tests. This project will enhance our classroom library so that every child has a book that they can't wait to read!
