All of our students want to learn in new, exciting ways. Students spend a great deal of their education listening to lectures and working out of textbooks. This project will bring emphasis to hands on learning in the High School mathematics classroom. I will use the teacher textbooks as a guide to develop more hands on learning activities. Students will learn more deeply because they can physically work with mathematical concepts by manipulating materials that represent the concepts. Learning mathematics should be fun and engaging! Students will learn the game of cribbage and participate in a tournament that will challenge their mental math, logical thinking, and develop soft skills such as communication and sportsmanship. The brain teasers and Junk Drawer Geometry will be used as quick start up activities to engage students in mathematical thinking before beginning a learning experience.
