As I grow students in becoming culturally component citizens, I will focus on ensuring that they are exposed to text that shares the experience of culturally diverse identities. Focusing on culturally responsive and relevant content that aligns with the identity of my students, the next text we will read is by Nic Stone. Dear Martin details the experience of a black teen that deals with racism. Having Black and Latino students, it is imperative that we read text that reflects the identity of my school's community. As my students with similar identities read this book, we will begin the journey of having critical discourse necessary to develop competency.
