My students are special education students with disabilities that prevent them from communicating. Most also have disabilities such as autism, learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, or cognitive disabilities. Many also come from low-income families, since we live in one of the poorest cities in the United States. Despite their challenges, my students are wonderful teenagers with a lot of potential. They are sweet, insightful, and smart in their own way. Plus, I think that each one genuinely wants to do better in school and have a future after graduation.
