This year I have the privilege of teaching 1st graders. First grade is where my heart is. I work closely with the other 1st grade teacher and we do planning, co-teaching, differentiated small groups, and often use flexible grouping within our two classrooms. Our classrooms are currently equipped with tables to allow for flexible grouping and discussion groups. This is wonderful, yet the students have no place to store their belongings and books. The addition of this communication and storage center will allow students to be organized and decrease the clutter and various containers being currently used for storage. This storage center would be the perfect place for all students to have a location to store math books, journals, reading books, and personal supplies. Every student truly needs a place to put their "things." This would add a sense of both ownership and belonging.
