The sketchbooks and watercolor set will be used by students at home because our school district is continuing to stay in remote learning until Feb.2, 2021. We have not been teaching in our classrooms since March 13, 2020. My Art students did not have a chance to ‘build’ their own sketchbooks this year, nor have supplies on hand at home to create Art assignments. Students will use sketchbooks and watercolor paint sets in remote learning to create their Art assignments. Our high school is classified as high poverty, and the majority of my Art students do not have Art supplies at home other than the use of notebook paper and a pencil. I’m seeking donations of sketchbooks and watercolor sets to students who would not otherwise be able to go and purchase these supplies. Our school fosters equity amongst all our students, and having consistent Art supplies among all students is fair and equitable. To further enhance the learning of my students, the donation of sketchbooks and watercolors will provide multiple opportunities for lessons in painting and drawing while fundamentally using a variety of the Elements and Principles of Art; for examples: color, pattern, value, unity, texture, and balance. All the projects students create will be kept in the sketchbook, and not scattered or disorganized. Students will use the sketchbook for drawing prompts on occasion as well as observational drawing outdoors.
