I work with a very diverse group of students. A majority of students come from a lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Many come to school hungry and have difficulty with concentration and motivation. Because of this, I keep a hearty supply of food in my classroom that I can give them when they are in need. Having the microwave would allow me to provide warm healthier snacks. Giving them food is one less thing for them to worry about and improve their educational success across the school setting. The printer is another device that will be beneficial. Throughout the year, we have group projects and having access to a printer within the room will lessen travel between floors to print and save valuable educational time as well as reduce possible exposure from the Coronavirus. Some assignments require color in order for students to identify certain assignments. Having a printer in close proximity will be beneficial for students and teachers. Due to Covid-19, our schools have stepped up cleaning in order to reduce the risk of spreading, not only for Covid-19 but other sickness that will be inevitable. Having a diffuser in the classroom will help to purify the air and improve learning conditions. I have chosen the novel Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys for my 9th grade students. I believe the historical aspect of the novel will compliment their current and future study of WWII. I am wanting to build my collection of literature that will meet the many different Lexile ranges within my English resource classroom. Lexile ranges vary from 4th grade to 8th grade. It is very difficult to find novels that are age appropriate for those at lower levels. Thank you for your consideration.
