During the winter we will have several different STEM challenges such as planning, designing and building the highest snowman, a skier that can stand on two skis, and an elf stuck on a zip line. These challenges teach problem solving, flexibility, creativity and argumentation (when justifying their design). All of these challenges require having a variety of supplies available for my students to choose from when building their projects. These include masking tape, straws, cotton balls, pipe cleaners and other small supplies used to create open ended projects. We will also use the math manipulatives (dice, sleeves etc.) for playing math games. I find that my students enjoy and remember skills so much more easily when playing a math game with a friend than when they just do worksheets. Teachers Pay Teachers is also the source I use to buy the lesson plans for these particular STEM lessons. The gift cards will help me continue to support my students' learning and growth.
