Distance learning brings unique challenges to students. I’d like to have an added monitor to teach more efficiently and to better connect with my students. In this distance learning setting, my students rely on what I show on the screen to learn, and my laptop screen does not have enough space for all needed to be shown. Often time I need to display multiple items on the screen at the same time. For example, I will need to show the math problem for students to work on, the online whiteboard for me to record student ideas, and Teams meeting that my students are in. With the only screen on my laptop, it is impossible to show all these at the same time. So I tell my students, “ if you have an idea to share, or if you need help, you must speak out, because the screen is taken by the question and the whiteboard, and I can’t see you!” I can tell how they are learning by looking at their faces, but my screen does not have room for this important piece of information. The majority of my students are English Language Learners. They are very shy because of their limited English skills. A second monitor will help me to have eye contact with them, provide non-verbal clues, and know when they are struggling because I can see them. Your donation will greatly improve my students learning experience. It will be a lasting positive impact that benefits my students every day.
