In my classroom I have typically developing children as well as children with special needs. The children range from three to five years and they all come bearing different abilities. A lot of what I teach in the classroom is adaptive behavior skills. I teach children how to begin caring for themselves in toileting, meal-time routines, and hygiene. These skills are critical in daily life. A step stool would help my students to gain confidence in independence by allowing them to be more comfortable in learning these new adaptive behavior skills.
