My students are ready to learn. They don't care that it's over the computer, that it's from home, that they may also be responsible for taking care of their siblings while they are in class. They are not looking for excuses; they are looking for ways to make their parents proud. And while they are trying their best, and they have access to computers and hotspots, a huge barrier to success is their ability to clearly hear the sounds they are trying so hard to learn. They want to identify the correct spelling for bag, bug, and beg, but these short vowel sounds are difficult to differentiate over the computer, and even more difficult to differentiate when they also hear their sibling's teacher trying their best to teach a different subject at the same time. These headphones will allow my students to listen and communicate more effectively, which, when combined with their motivation and drive, will have an outsized affect on their learning.
