My middle school students are active and growing, and they have varied interests and needs. They are different sizes and shapes, and so they should have the opportunity to choose alternate seating arrangements that allow for movement, comfort, and collaboration. Flexible seating options will allow students to choose seats that meet their physical needs, so they can focus on their academic growth. Additionally, flexible seating allows for more student autonomy, which promotes student engagement and motivation. Students will be given the opportunity to choose alternate seating while reading independently, working in small groups, and as a break from their traditional desk.
