My kindergarten and first grade ENL students will be participating in either blended or remote learning, due to COVID. With all the budget cuts to our public school system it is truly difficult to get the students the supplies they need to create a productive, engaging and effectively equitable learning environment. While planning on how to best support our remote and in person students that are learning a new language, with the appropriate ENL services, I realized that our students would need headsets and could not afford to purchase them. The students would use the headsets with microphones to participate in blended and remote learning. I would provide support for in person group learning, in an "ENL virtual center" in the classroom. I would also provide support at home in a live virtual classroom setting. In order to not disrupt the other students' learning in school and allow students to hear instruction clearly while participating by speaking to their peers virtually, they will need to bring head-phones to school. They will sit spaced apart (6ft) in person , find a quiet place at home (which is a luxury to most) and receive their language/ELA services both remotely and in-person. I would love if all of my students had access to the proper tools to continue developing their reading, writing, thinking and speaking skills with minimal distractions and maximum clarity. Given the unfortunate circumstances I will need help getting purchasing these headsets. Please support our English Language Learners and public schools!
